If you’re putting a lip balm with artificial ingredients and chemical sunscreens onto your lips, aside from skin absorption you are also going to be inadvertently ingesting the ingredients.

When researching our new formula, we looked for one that has both a natural base formula and a natural sunscreen. There are many natural lip balms on the market, but the majority use chemical sunscreens. Others may use a natural sunscreen like Zinc Oxide, but then use a petrolatum and/or artificial base ingredients. You also find some Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide sunscreens that also have Oxybenzone and/or other chemical sunscreens mixed in.  Always read the labels.

Our SPF 15 Lip Balm uses a premium quality formula of natural base ingredients paired with a natural zinc oxide mineral sunblock/sunscreen. And better yet, our formula uses non-nanoparticle zinc oxide which is the size (link) you don’t have to worry about. - Keep lip balm sticks out of direct sunlight and very high temperatures for prolonged periods of time.
 
Does zinc oxide leave a white shadow?
Generally, yes, but for our formula to achieve an SPF 15 rating requires less zinc oxide in the formula, and then one particular ingredient is added especially for the zinc oxide sunblock:  Polyhydroxystearic acid - which is a natural and safe ingredient which suspends and disperses the zinc oxide evenly minimizing any white shadowing effect. 
 
The natural formula is great, but how does it look, feel, and work?   
It is smooth and glides on nice, it moisturizes, it lasts, and it is SPF tested. The light pina colada aroma is pleasant but far from overwhelming. It leaves very little white shadowing from the zinc oxide. It feels good on your lips. Appearance is smooth with just a slight sheen. No glossy shine or strange colors.
 
What about viscosity - thickness? 
The zinc oxide does make the consistency slightly thicker than a natural lip balm without zinc oxide, or a lip balm with chemical sunscreens, but it is still smooth. Never too thick, chalky, dry, or pasty. It glides on smooth at room temperature or at body/pocket temperature.

Do your SPF 15 lip balms have an expiration date?
Yes, they have an expiration date because all sunscreen products are regulated by the FDA, and the FDA sets the expiration date at two years from production. - Do they really 'expire'?
No, in fact the active ingredient (the sunblocker) is zinc oxide which is a mineral and does not expire or lose its effectiveness. Our zinc oxide based lip balms will continue to protect your lips even after the expiration date. Our formula is very stable and will last many years.
